Scallops are the secret Waterford delicacy the rest of Ireland needs to know about

EVER HAD A scallop? No, not that kind of scallop. A chipper scallop.
They’re common in England and Australia, but here in Ireland they’re mostly associated with Waterford (though they can also be found in certain chippers in other parts of the country).
Scallops are simply thin slices of potato battered and fried, and are best served with a generous amount of salt and vinegar.

Waterford people have a LOT of feelings about them.
The best place to get some is in the Cleaboy, Johnnie Walkers, or The Marian

And yes, people do have them as an accompaniment to chips

Think that’s too much potato? It’s not in Waterford.
Getting an extra scallop is EVERYTHING
Whoops!
We couldn't find this Tweet
Johnnie Walkers even does a scallop buttie

Which frankly sounds amazing.
And people even go as far as calling them ‘sexy’

And we are 100% OK with that (and on the first bus to Waterford to get one for ourselves).
